After its initial launch in December of 2009, Around the Plate has undergone a lot of changes. In fact, you may not know that when I originally started posting as “the girl behind the plate” my primary motivation was to become a better cook.
Well, just over a year later, Around the Plate has evolved into much MUCH more than one girl’s journey to achieving cooking fame… although I still post new recipes and meals I make at home from time to time. Slowly, Around the Plate has evolved into a place where both expert and everyday person come together to learn, share, and discuss ways to improve both the way we eat and, ultimately, our health.
Next week we are taking that one step further by introducing thePlate Community experiment. I have been mentioning this community on both Facebook and Twitter throughout the past month; however, I really haven’t gone into detail as to what it is or what it means exactly.
thePlate Community is basically a project of mine to bring more food and nutrition enthusiasts together so that you, the reader, can quickly and effectively gather the best online resources available as you progress on your journey to better eating. Believe it or not, there are many other people besides myself with great information to share! You can already catch a glimpse of some of these amazing people by taking a look at our official the Plate Community page. Once there you will notice that there are three different categories identifying each of our community members. We have our Nutrition Experts (aka Registered Dietitians), Recipe Gurus ( aka people who can make ordinary ingredients into AMAZING dishes), and Healthy Eating Champions (aka people who inspire us to stick to our healthy eating plans).
Each week we will be featuring various blog posts from our community members so you can get a taste of what each community group has to offer. We will also be highlighting different community members and all the amazing things they do each month. Look for more blog posts, giveaways, product features, online events, and special occasions coming your way as thePlate Community officially launches on Monday, March 21st, 2011.
This is going to be a great opportunity for all of us to learn from each other and it is my hope that this new addition to our blog makes it that much more useful to you. I am also thrilled to be able to introduce you to some of my favorite movers and shakers of the online nutrition and food world.
Now if you are a food and nutrition blogger reading this and you want to participate by becoming a member, we are still on the look out for a few good bloggers in each category. Obviously, we would love to have you! 🙂 Send an email to aroundtheplate (at) gmail.com ASAP to let me know you’re interested. And for those non-bloggers out there, simply sit back, relax, maybe grab a healthy snack and get ready for the biggest, most potentially influential shift Around the Plate has ever undergone.
