Eating is anything but simple. In fact, its rather complicated. And although at its most basic level we eat to live, many of our customs and rituals incorporate the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of food. Throw in dietary restrictions, super-sized portions, cost restraints, marketing schemes, and even well-intentioned nutrition advice and, well, eating becomes very very complicated.
Unfortunately, complicated eating often makes the act of it hard to enjoy and somewhere down the line we tend to stop caring as much about what we eat and instead focus on the other, less complicated areas of our life. The eating process then takes a back seat and convenience tends to jumps behind the wheel.
When we fail to emphasize the importance of eating, we miss out on so much. So this February we’re going to help you put your eating plan back into focus. And guess what? Its not even going to be that complicated! We’ll keep it simple. I promise.
Instead of focusing on all the rules that make eating so difficult, we’re going to get back to basics. We’re going to encourage you to make eating a priority and help you discover ways to really love your food.
What does loving your food mean?
When we talk about loving your food, its more than just enjoying the taste of it. Although that is a part of the process, we want you to love and savor the food you eat because it also helps you feel your best. Believe it or not, when you start becoming more intentional about your food decisions and start listening to your body more, many of those “healthy” foods you were leery about actually become something you not only tolerate, but want more of.
So are you ready to love the food you eat? As we kick off this series, we encourage you to share the foods you love with us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Simply use the hashtag #platecommunity so we can follow along. We can’t wait to see what foods you bring to the table!!
Day 1 Homework: Grab a piece of paper and write down foods you know you love. As you write them down, really think through what qualities each food possesses that grants them a place on your love list. Once your list is created, snap a picture and share it on our Facebook page.
