You may have heard before that you need to frequently change up your workout routine. This is not only so you don’t get bored with what you’re doing, but also to continually challenge your body to improve. Luckily, there is plenty of variety offered in the world of fitness these days. Some of the classes offered, however, may not only challenge your body but also your comfort zone. Let’s take a look at some of the craziest workout trends spotted as of lately.
Animal Flow: We first learned about Animal Flow over on Bite Size Wellness. Talia explained this fitness craze as a “workout gone wild”. Animal flow is actually a perfect name for the class, considering crab walks, crocodile rolls, and beast crawls are all exercises performed. This nature inspired class aims to tone the forgotten muscles by using unique, equipment-free moves that target infrequently used muscles. During the class, participants are almost exclusively on all fours, participating in moves that build both strength and endurance simultaneously. Sound like a wild time to you?
Aerial Yoga: Practicing yoga on the mat is so last year. Now you can really lift your mind, body, and spirit by partaking in aerial yoga. In these classes, participants are suspended from the ceiling using a fabric hammock to achieve traditional yoga poses. Think cirque du soleil fused with yoga. You don’t have to be an experienced acrobat to participate though. Classes are offered for beginners, with no previous aerial, acrobatic, or yoga experience required. Aerial yoga is intended to improve flexibility, strength, and alignment.
Urban Rebounding: Okay, you’ve got to admit, even the name of this one is pretty cool. If you’re looking to feel like a kid again while still getting in shape, then urban rebounding may be the perfect fit for you. This unique fitness class uses mini-trampolines to up the intensity of the workout. The unstable surfaces helps to engage muscles more intensely, but also places less stress on the joints. The uncoordinated may want to just watch at first, considering most of the time your arms and legs will be moving simultaneously to produce a high-intensity, whole-body workout. Participants experience improvements in balance, coordination, aerobic conditioning, and also build strength in their arms, legs, and core simultaneously.
Although these fitness trends may sound a bit crazy at first, in the end they actually produce a crazy good workout! If you’re looking to try something new, fun and exciting, then perhaps one of the classes listed above would be perfect for you. Still not convinced? It’s important to remember that in order to grow as a person, sometimes you have to try things that are beyond your comfort zone. Even if your physical strength doesn’t grow after participating in one of these classes, you will still experience benefits by conquering something you may have never thought possible. You may be a little frightened that you could make a fool of yourself, but hey, look on the bright side- even if you laugh the entire way through the class, you’ll still be getting a great abdominal workout!
What’s the craziest fitness class you’ve ever tried?
