Having a food scale in your kitchen can be an excellent way to master recipes with tricky measurements or accurately calculate the calories in various food products. That said, it can be tedious and time consuming to measure each ingredient and calculate the calories you’re eating. Don’t stress! This review of the EatSmart Precision Elite Kitchen Scale will give you the pros and cons of utilizing such a scale in your kitchen. Read on to see what we thought and check out our video review below!
Pros:
The stainless steel top makes the scale durable and easy to clean with a soft, damp washcloth. Not to mention the plate is sleek and has a modern kitchen feel. No matter your kitchen decor, this scale will fit right in.
But its more than just pretty to look at. The EatSmart Precision Elite Kitchen Scale is also incredibly functional and will accurately measure grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds. As an added bonus, you don’t even have to switch between grams and kilograms or ounces and pounds. Once you’ve exceed the allotted gram or ounce measurement, the scale will automatically adjust. Maximum capacity is 15 pounds.
And if you aren’t sure how many calories are in the foods you measure, you’ll be glad to know that each scale comes with its own Guidebook to Calorie Counting. This booklet allows you to easily calculate calories by providing a lengthy list of foods from each food group and their associated amount of calories per gram. Simply weigh the food, refer to guidebook, and do the math. Of all the features, this is probably our favorite because not every food scale comes with a guide. Without it, it can be very difficult to translate the numbers you see on the scale. We also love that EatSmart wants to promote healthy eating by giving users the ability to monitor calories in the foods eaten each day.
Cons:
Although the scale easy to use, the front display may be overly simple. With only two unlabeled buttons on the front of the scale, it took us a little extra effort to figure out how to jump from grams to ounces and to adequately use the tare function in between use. A separate tare button may have been a nice addition and time saver; however, after a brief run through, we were able to easily transition between units and the tare function like scale-wielding pros.
One other noticeable difference between this scale and other similar scales we’ve seen is the space between the plate and base of the scale. This could be problematic if food particles fall into the space and begin to accumulate bacteria. Make sure you are careful with the foods you measure and clean the scale thoroughly in all its nooks and crannies. If you do that, the scale will maintain its cleanly appeal.
Verdict:
Overall, the EatSmart Precision Elite Kitchen Scale is a worthy contender and useful tool in your home kitchen. Its a sturdy little machine, easy to use, and will get the job done. Use yours to accurately measure the amount of calories you are consuming or to develop innovative, consistent recipes that you can share with your friends and family for years to come.
