What Makes Applegate’s Natural Hot Dogs So Special? We’ll Tell You!

Applegate Natural Hot DogHot dogs and summer just go together. They’re quick to make, are best eaten outside, and can be roasted on a stick.  Of course, you could eat them in the dead of winter, but something just feels wrong about that!

Although hot dogs aren’t necessarily an everyday food, they can be an okay occasional eat – especially if your summer just wouldn’t be the same without them. Nevertheless, it is really important to make sure the hot dog you are choosing to serve your family is a quality one that you won’t feel bad about after the summer season is over.

Recently, Applegate sent me a few of their “Super Natural Uncured Beef Hot Dogs” to try. I was skeptical; my 5 year old and 3 year old were just plain excited. They think hot dogs are quite the warm weather treat.

Here’s What I Loved:

Applegate probably has some of the best meat products out on the market. Their hot dogs are no exception. They taste great, are 100% organic beef, free of antibiotics and hormones, and have minimal ingredients. That’s right, no nasty fillers to worry about!

And although you may think that a “healthy” dog might taste off, these taste just like normal hot dogs – maybe even a little bit more flavorful. At least I thought so and I’m a condiment-free sort of girl.

Here’s What I Didn’t: 

There’s very little I didn’t like about these hot dogs. I can’t imagine eating hot dogs all the time though, and would never recommend you do that anyways. Why? Because hot dogs aren’t really that nutritionally dense. Very few vitamins and minerals can be found in a hot dog. You’ll also notice that even these hot dogs are a little high in saturated fat and their sodium content is approaching somewhat higher levels. General rule of thumb: Try to keep your hot dog under 150 calories, 3 grams of saturated fat, and 370 mg of sodium for a little less guilt and a little more health at your grill.

When choosing a hot dog, you can’t do much better than Applegate Farms. Just remember that man can’t survive on hot dogs alone! Amp up its health even more by serving it with fresh veggies, fruit, and whole grains.

  1. I adore applegate farms and actually made a video about their 100% grass-fed beef hot dogs (linked to my name). I don’t eat grain-fed meat so I am thrilled that they have an alternative with NO SUGAR too!! It’s so hard to find this kind of hot dog, but Applegate Farms pulled through! :)
