If you’re looking for a weight loss plan, we’re probably not the dietitians you’re looking for. Our focus is on total body support, not weight change and yes, there is a difference between the two.
Earlier this month our team participated in a local health fair. These opportunities are great and one of the many ways we work within our community to share our message of food freedom. Interestingly enough, when we attend these events we’re often situated right next to other companies and businesses that sell weight loss. And I get it. For many, dietitians are associated with weight loss services. In fact, many do indeed offer these types of services. But we’re not those dietitians.
At Around the Plate, we don’t sell weight loss. In fact, we don’t promote weight loss at all. Our approach is weight-inclusive, which means we focus on health for all and believe that everyone, no matter their size, can choose to care for their bodies whether weight change happens or not.
Our approach can be empowering. It can allow us to better focus on underlying issues faced by our clients that often get overlooked. It allows us to practice with compassion. It also ensures that our clients will receive care without weight bias or stigma.
Our approach is also heavily backed up by research. Much of which can be reviewed in this amazing database.
Now of course, you may not be ready for this approach and that’s okay. In fact, the first time I heard about this approach and began uncovering the research, much of which is included in the database shared above, I felt a little shell-shocked.
These weren’t studies I had been aware of before either. But as I continued to dig, I couldn’t deny the compelling nature of it all. My hope is that even if you aren’t ready to embrace a weight-inclusive approach, that this will at least get you to think a bit differently about the other approaches that exist.
To further compare our approach to a more traditional weight-centric one, we created this flyer. We hope you find it useful in deciding which approach makes the most sense for you.
We’ve been proudly standing up to the diet industry since 2012. If you are ready to embrace who you are now and discover ways to support the body you have, we’re here to work with you towards that goal. Call us at 989-400-1478 to book an appointment or to book online.
